23rd Busan International Film Festival 2018 and Pakistani Filmmaker Raja Saad
23rd Busan International Film Festival 2018 has opened in South Korea on 4th October 2018. The opening film was “Beautiful days” by Jeru Yun (Korean Filmmaker). Busan International Film Festival is Asia’s biggest film festival. Many of the Indian films are also premiered in this festival such as “Manto” directed by Nandita Das, “Sanju” by Raju Herani, “Round figure” by Hardik Mehta and 324 total films throughout the world.
Although there is no Pakistani film in the festival there but one Pakistani filmmaker “Raja Saad” was selected under a program called “Platform Busan” which is a forum for independent filmmaker throughout the Asia. He is the only Pakistani this year to represent. He is also pitching his fiction feature film project in a project market under Busan Film Commission that is “Link Of Cine-Asia”.
Also that, Raja Saad was selected in this year’s Bucheon Fantastic Film School as the first Pakistani ever which is another of prestigious film festivals in Asia. And he also got awarded to have a fellowship at Busan Asian Film School in Korea that is a newly made film lab (for filmmakers in Asia) to learn and share more about the international film business. He was selected among 20 of the top Indie filmmakers from all the Asia to develop the film project with Korean support. Raja Saad has been presenting about Pakistan’s film industry and the market space for films in Pakistan to Korea as Korea is becoming a hub for Asian films. He is also working with Korean producers on the international co- production of his film.
When asked about the film project he has been working on, he didn’t agree to disclose it but stated that soon he will announce when the pre-production of the film will begin.
